Anyone that has driven by Lake Michigan over the past few weeks has probably noticed that the water level is quite high. Combine that with the high winds the Lakeshore area has experienced, and you get roadways, and beaches coated with water from the crashing waves.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has released a report which says that the water level is not going to recede any time soon.
John Allis of the Army Corp’s Detroit District said in the release, “This sets the stage for coastal impacts and damages in 2020 similar to, or worse than, what was experienced last year.”
Part of the issue, according to the report, was the warmer than average winter we have had, which has resulted in melting and runoff, and less evaporation off the lakes’ surfaces.
