The downtown area of Manitowoc has received a major facelift over the past few years, and that trend will be continuing in 2020.
Mayor Justin Nickels was on the WCUB Breakfast Club this week, and he recalled all the buildings that had their façade’s redone over the past 12 months such as “the Schuette Building, the two buildings closest to the river on the south side of the bridge right across from the farmers market lot, and the Pizza Garden building. We’ve had quite a few business owners come in and approach us now that they have seen what other property owners are doing, they’re really interested.”
Nickels also said that even more businesses are looking to take advantage of the City’s Downtown Façade Program. “Putting a facade on is not the first thing people think of because you don’t make money necessarily from a facade, especially a historic one. It takes some money to do that. The fact that we have a 50/50 match and the fact that other people are starting to do it, people are starting to get excited.”
The Mayor also teased another project that will begin soon on 8th Street but said they could not announce it just yet.
