Christmas has come and gone, and now it is time to get rid of the tree, but what are you supposed to do with it?
Jon Reisenbuechler, the Operations Manager of the Manitowoc County Recycling Center is reminding people that you can drop your trees off at the Basswood Compost Site from 7 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, and Saturdays from 8 am to noon.
All of the ornaments and lights should be removed, and trees should be cut in half if it is more than 6 feet long. Participants must come to the Recycling Center Main Office, open Monday through Friday between 7 am and 4 pm, before dropping off their tree.
Used natural trees can be chipped and turned into wood mulch which is used for groundcover and erosion control in landscaping projects and trails.
