Despite the major setback of the Pardon Advisory Board not considering a pardon, the attorney’s for Brendan Dassey are not done trying to get him home.
Governor Tony Evers announced last week that Dassey is not able to receive a pardon through the board, but according to Laura Nirider from the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, “(The governor) does have the power to issue commutations under the Wisconsin Constitution and should do so when, as here, courts fail to deliver justice.”
Nirider put it simply, “We’re not done fighting for Brendan.”
Dassey is currently serving a life sentence in the Oshkosh Correctional Institute for the 2005 rape and murder of freelance photographer Theresa Halbach.
