A former Milwaukee health commissioner insists he isn’t at fault for exposing thousands of children to lead poisoning.
Allegations of serious mismanagement have been directed at the Milwaukee Health Department’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program.
In media interviews Monday, Bevan Baker blamed other city departments and Mayor Tom Barrett, saying he wants his name cleared.
Baker says he warned the mayor about the inadequate job crews were doing while replacing lead laterals on the city’s north side, but nothing was done four years ago.
Barrett has said he wasn’t made aware of the issues until just under two years ago.
