The Sheboygan County Memorial Airport is getting a facelift.
Ground was recently broken on a $5 million U.S. Customs and Terminal Building, which is expected to be completed by July of next year.
Those involved with the project say the Airport should be fully operational in time for the influx of visitors for the Ryder Cup Golf Tournament, which will be taking place at Whistling Straits in Sheboygan in September.
The upgrade will allow private planes to fly directly into Sheboygan County, without a layover at a different airport with a Customs facility.
County Administrator Adam Payne noted that the airport already has a $26 million economic impact on the local community, and the new facility should facilitate even more income.
