Governor Tony Evers will not be pardoning Brendan Dassey.
Evers said in a news release that Dassey is not eligible for a pardon, citing the Pardon Advisory Board requiring five years to have passed after the completion of the sentence a convicted person wants pardoned.
Since Dassey is serving a life sentence for the 2005 murder of photographer Theresa Halbach, that will not be possible.
Dassey is also ineligible due to the fact that he is registered as a sex offender.
Dassey asked for the pardon back in October in a letter to the Governor, saying “I am innocent and want to go home.”
