The Mariners Trail, a 6-mile paved stretch of property along Lake Michigan, linking Manitowoc and Two Rivers has been in existence for 10-years. Judy Corrado, a member of the Board of Directors, said the new Mariners Trail calendar for 2020 is one of the best things they have going to support the local community.
“Many of the winners are local Manitowoc-Two Rivers people, but we’ve had people from out of town enter our contest and win. One was a man from Italy, he actually got a picture in our calendar. This year we have a couple of people that are from Minnesota and Illinois, they hear about the contest and submit their pictures digitally.”
Corrado explains a committee chooses from the approximately 165 entries in a photo contest and selects 13, including the cover, and the 12-monthly photos. She says all of the money raised through the calendar sales, goes to support the beautifully maintained flower-beds along the trail. “The gardeners get X amount of money. We have 50 gardeners. We also pay for the mulch and other needs for our flower beds. All of the money stays local and the reason we are able to have so much money is because we have 12 wonderful sponsors who pay for the printing costs.”
Corrado points out the calendars make tremendous gifts and they’re on sale right now at a number of locations including the Manitowoc Area Visitor & Convention Bureau, Rahr-West Art Museum, Ivy Trails, Acute Angle, Chamber of Manitowoc County, Manitowoc Piggly Wiggly, Schroeder’s Department Store, The Medicine Shop and Lighthouse Inn.
