A week after the Milwaukee Brewers non-tendered left-hander Alex Claudio, the team signed him to a one-year deal Monday worth $1.75 million.
Claudio is a specialist against left-handed batters who could be affected by the new rule forcing pitchers to face at least three batters when they come into a game. He pitched in 83 games last year for Milwaukee.
The Brewers also signed utility player Ronny Rodriguez off waivers. Rodriguez played for the Detroit Tigers last season, hitting .221 with 14 homers and 43 runs batted in.
The moves leave the Brewers with 34 players on their 40-man roster.
