The Wisconsin Maritime Museum is celebrating a rather famous, festive shipwreck all day today. The Cathy Green from the museum gave SeehaferNews.com a little history of the Christmas Tree Ship. She explained that the ship actually wrecked just off of the Wisconsin Coast in Manitowoc in 1912.
It called the Christmas Tree Ship because it shipped Christmas Trees from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan down to Chicago, where tree farms were non-existent, making them rather expensive to buy. In fact, the Captain of the ship was nicknamed “Captain Santa”.
You can learn more about the Christmas Tree Ship by going to the Museum from 9:00-5:00 PM today. As a special Christmas treat, admission will be free.
