The Two Rivers City Council this week passed the 2020 budget.
City Manager Greg Buckley tells SeehaferNews.com that $15.2 million of the nearly $35 million spending package is allocated towards utilities. He explained that “most of that money is going for debt service to pay for some pretty significant improvements we’ve made over the last two years…at the wastewater treatment plant.”
Customers are expected to see an increase from $5.50 to $6.75 per month on their sewer bill to pat for those allocations.
Buckley says another big chunk is dedicated towards the General Fund or Taxpayer funded balance, with over half of it going to police, fire, and ambulance. “It also funds park and rec services, cemetery, senior service center, public works, and general government,” Buckley said. “That’s up 2.2%”
Money is also provided for what’s referred to as a “Reinvestment in Community Quality of Life” which includes a resurfacing project on Mariner’s Trail, a safe bike and pedestrian crossing to the trail on Madison Street and additional investment in for trail maintenance-replacing the Community House Fitness Center equipment and replacing pumps and lighting for the Central Park fountains.
The Two Rivers City Manager adds “if you have a $100,000 house, the city’s share of the tax bill will be down by $9.53.”
Tax Bills are expected to go out sometime next week.
