The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says the late start for this year’s gun deer season means hunters missed the rut and deer weren’t moving around.
That resulted in a 25-percent reduction in the number of deer killed – just over 160,000 this year, compared to 214,000 in 2018.
The D-N-R says overall interest was down, a situation shown by a dropoff of 13,000 licenses sold.
The nine-day gun season ended Sunday.
