Manitowoc County is among the worst counties in the State when it comes to traffic accidents.
Reports from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation indicate that last year, there were 2,189 accidents in Manitowoc County, which translates to 247.61 accidents per 100 million miles traveled.
That rate is good for the 10th worst in the state.
While that is not a good statistic, it is much better than in 2017, when the County was ranked fourth worst with 2,377 accidents, or 273.6 per 100 million miles traveled.
The lake effect weather is partially to blame for the high accident rate, along with the high population of deer in the area.
Urban areas are more susceptible to accidents as well, which is proved by Milwaukee County having the highest rate of accidents at 400.87.
Statistically speaking, the safest county to drive in is Iron County, who had the lowest rate at 65.52 per million miles traveled.
