Wisconsin Public Service crews have made what was termed great progress on Thanksgiving Day to get the lights back on across northeast, north central and northern Wisconsin.
After a winter storm dropped heavy, wet snow on those sections of the state Wednesday, WPS crews have restored power to more than 51,000 customers.
A news release from the utility last night indicated work is continuing around-the-clock to restore service to remaining affected customers, including those in the hardest-hit areas of Lincoln, Oneida and Vilas Counties.
That effort is expected to be accomplished sometime today.
WPS said many of its’ hard-working crews and those that have traveled from other utilities have put their family holiday weekend plans on-hold to restore power in the region.
Utility officials are keeping a close-eye on the weather as another storm system is approaching the upper Midwest.
