Opponents of a 25-million dollar redevelopment plan for the east side of Madison say more than doubling the size of a homeless shelter could bring more crime to their neighborhood.
The Madison Plan Commission has given the Salvation Army the all-clear to increase the shelter capacity from 150 people to 350.
The Army says the shelter is outdated and has to turn away as many homeless people as it takes in.
The city will review the appeal, checking to see if it meets the requirement of including 20 percent of homeowners who live within 200 feet of the project site.
