There was a 2-hour work session by the Manitowoc City Council Committee of the Whole Monday night at City Hall.
Council President and 6th district alderman Eric Sitkiewitz tells SeehaferNews.com said the purpose was to “get everybody together, including city staff, to give direction on future plans for the community if-and-when they would ever occur.”
One area of discussion involved the potential use of the former Mirro property on Washington Street as a future home for a Boys & Girls Club. He told us that the Committee went through the history of the demolition of the Miro building, as well as what clean up would look like. “We gave directions to the staff to work with the Boys and Girls Club to come up with what a sight plan would look like,” Eric explained. This was so the committee could figure out what all needed to be done to the property.
Other topics discussed by the committee of the whole included the city-owned parking lot, along the river, and if a developer offered to purchase the land ”would the city be interested in selling it?” Sitkiewitz said the answer was yes should the right offer come forward.
Another talking point was “would the former Herald Times Reporter building make a good parking lot?” And the council president said the general consensus was ‘no’…they wouldn’t be open to that possibility at this time.
