Last week we reported that about half of the 400 soldiers from Appleton’s 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry returned safely to the United States, and now the remainder of the National Guardsmen have their boots on American soil.
The nearly 200 soldiers landed at Fort Bliss Texas on Saturday, joining their Red Arrow brethren.
The battalion mobilized to Afghanistan late last year and conducted hundreds of missions as “guardian angels,” providing force protection for countless engagements between advisors from the 2nd Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB), other coalition forces, contractors, and Afghan troops.
The 127th was replaced by another Red Arrow Unit, the National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry out of Eau Claire.
