The law enforcement officer who shot and killed a Green Bay man in Kewaunee County last week has been identified as Aaron J. Schley an eight-year veteran of the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department.
The suspect-38-year-old Luis A. Cardona of Green Bay died at the scene. Cardona had pulled his ex-girlfriend, 40-year-old Babette Caraballo into his vehicle as she was arriving for work just before 5 a.m. last Tuesday morning at Hansen’s Frozen Foods in Green Bay. Cardona’s vehicle was located several hours later by law enforcement on the private property of a residence in West Kewaunee Township.
When law enforcement moved in Cardona shot Caraballo leading Deputy Schley to fire his weapon at the suspect. Life-saving measures were immediately performed by authorities but Cardona died on the scene.
Kewaunee County Sheriff Matt Joski says Caraballo remains at a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Schley is on administrative leave per department policy and the investigation is being handled by the Wisconsin Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation.
