The deceased driver involved in a semi-truck accident last week in the Town of Maple Grove has been identified as 55 -year-old Jose Luis Perez of San Jose California.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department and EMS personnel responded to the intersection of County Roads K and W Wednesday afternoon on reports of the crash involving two semi-trucks. A preliminary investigation indicates that Perez was traveling east on K and failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a logging trailer driven by a 27-year-old rural Kiel man. Perez, who was not wearing a seatbelt upon impact, was thrown from his cab and pronounced dead at the scene following resuscitation attempts by Valders Ambulance.
Manitowoc County Deputy Coroner Megan Hansen says Perez’s cause of death was the result of multi-systems blunt force trauma on scene. The rural Kiel man was transported to a Green Bay hospital with what were termed serious but “non-life threatening” injuries. His name and condition are unknown.
Intoxicants are not suspected to be a factor in the crash which remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol.
