Kiel Head Football Coach Mike Dressler sized up the challenge that lies in front of them tonight at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison as the Raiders meet the Crusaders of Catholic Memorial of Waukesha in the WIAA Division Four State Championship Game.
This game pits two of the veteran coaches against one another. Dressler has coached 47 years-seven at Kiel while Bill Young of the Crusaders has been at this for 42 years. Dressler said that Memorial is fundamentally sound and is very well coached, making it a tough challenge for his squad.
Kiel is at state for the first time while Catholic Memorial has won six state titles-in fact they Are the defending D-3 Champs and are blessed with a ton of talent. Coach Young told SeehaferNews.com that “No other Memorial football team has had the opportunity to win back to back titles. We are dialed in.”
Memorial’s Tight End Cole Dakovich is heading to Wisconsin-Linebacker Ben Kreuhl will play next season at Purdue while quarterback Luke Fox will play baseball at Duke next season.
But the Raiders cabinet is full as well led by senior quarterback Mitch Mahler who’s accounted for 2000 yards of offense and 35 total touchdowns- senior running back Alex Kleinhans has rushed for over 1,100 yards, senior Hunter Scharenbroch has scored via the run, pass, interception, plus punt and kickoff return and the Raider defense has allowed only 108 points all year.
Dressler says without the senior class buying in-they are sitting home tonight. “In order to be successful you have to sacrifice,” Dressler explained. “Without that, we wouldn’t be making this trip to Madison. There is doubt in my mind about that at all.”
And the community also has also bought in. ”They care about their kids. They are proud of our new facility. That pride carries over to our kids. I’m a very fortunate man to be where I am right now in my career.
Tonight’s game kicks at 7 with coverage on 980 WCUB and cubradio.com beginning at 6:30.
