The Kiel Raiders will be playing for a WIAA Division-4 State title Thursday night at Camp Randall Stadium. The 13-0 Raiders take on 11-2 Catholic Memorial in a 7:00 o’clock start.
Kiel head coach Mike Dressler has been responsible for a change in fortunes there and it all began with a consistent off-season training program. “We have this concept here. We call it ‘Expectation is a Two Way Street’” Dressler explained. “If we expect them to be there, then naturally I have to be there too.”
He went on to tell us that his coaching staff hold their players accountable off the field too, saying “We are more concerned not only with the individual as an athlete, but we are also concerned about him as a student. I take a great deal of pride in that.”
Bill Young is the veteran coach of Catholic Memorial, and he said that his team plays in “the best league in the state” in the Classic 8.
Young’s team was bitten by the injury bug, but have since recovered. “We lost Joe Sigma, our deep threat, #1 return guy, in week three,” Young explained. “He tore his meniscus, had surgery, came back, and was out for 5 and a half weeks. We just kinda righted the ship. Our guys are really dialed in and doing a great job at this time.”
Those comments from the two head coaches came during a telephone conference with SeehaferNews.comcall last night.
Meanwhile, Kiel Athletic Director Steve Walsh says an advance sale of tickets for the championship game is being held today & tomorrow from 8-until-3 and Wednesday morning between 800 and 10:00 at the high school. Tickets are $10 for adults, students and children.
Also, a Community Fan-Bus is offered free of charge with departure from Ameriquip at 4:00 Thursday afternoon. You can sign up for the bus until Noon on Wednesday.
Those not able to attend in person can hear the play-by-play broadcast on AM 980 WCUB & cubradio.com, with coverage starting at 6:30pm.
