With the early season snowfalls, Manitowoc’s Department of Public Infrastructure would like to remind citizens of the city’s snow and ice ordinance to ensure pedestrian safety.
Director Dan Koski says all property owners, renters, and others responsible for each parcel of real estate, must remove snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of or adjacent to their property. Removal must be to the full paved width and length within 24 hours of the end of each storm.
Koski also reminds residents that per city statute that it’s illegal to deposit any snow or ice from private property into any city street or alleyway and may be subject to be fined up to $200.
Meanwhile-the City or its contractor will address any property in violation of the snow shoveling compliance without prior notification with a minimum of $300 assessed to the abutting property owner for the first offense with penalties increased $300 per subsequent offense up to $900 over a period of three years.
