Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich came close to keeping his National League Most Valuable Player status, but he just missed too many games.
Yelich sat out the last 18 after injuring his knee. That was a factor as the Baseball Writers Association of American chose Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Cody Bellinger for the honor.
Yelich still won the batting title and led the N-L in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, O-P-S, runs created, win probability added and several other categories.
Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell just finished second to Mike Shildt for 2019 N-L Manager of the Year earlier this week.
