The list of her Volleyball accomplishments at Manitowoc Lincoln High School is both long and impressive.
Ships senior Outside Hitter, Katie DiRaimondo, has been given a full ride to attend Tennessee Tech University, a Division-1 school located in Cookeville, Tennessee.
Katie’s athletic resume’ includes FRCC Player of the Year, 2nd Team All-State, AVCA Region-6 Honorable mention, 3-time all-conference selection & a 4-year letter winner with over 1,000 kills in her career!
DiRaimondo signed her National Letter of Intent after school yesterday in the Lincoln Library. Katie called the opportunity surreal. “It hit me all of a sudden as I was talking that it is real,” she told SeehaferNews.com. “It’s nice to see all the support I have here…It makes me really proud of all that I’ve done.”
The Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech are coached by Jeannette Waldo, who according to Katie, has recruiting ties to northeast Wisconsin. Katie said that she used to coach at the University of Green Bay, and watched her as a freshman. Once she made her way to Tennessee Tech, she remembered Katie and started making contact.
Ships Coach Mary Beth Dixon saw Katie’s potential early on and had to actually push her to make sure she kept playing. Dixon said, “I kept saying to her “You have the capability to be a very good volleyball player.”
Coach Dixon told a story that exemplifies Katie’s character as the team traveled to the State Volleyball Tournament in Green Bay last week. She recalled sitting in the car with Katie and listening to her ask if there was anything they could do about the students that were spinning doughnuts in the parking lot. Dixon said, “She’s just so conscientious about doing the right thing, and being the right role model for everyone around.”
The daughter of Dr. Karl and Sue DiRaimondo of Manitowoc plans to enroll in the Pre-Dentistry program at Tennessee Tech with the intention of becoming an Orthodontist after hanging up her volleyball shoes.
