Two of three defendants charged in multiple vehicle break-ins on Manitowoc’s northside appeared for bail hearings Wednesday afternoon.
37-year-old Jesse J. Helling is charged with theft from a vehicle, carrying a concealed knife and receiving stolen property from a child. 18-year-old Jesse L. Garcia faces charges of theft from a vehicle and felony bail jumping. A third suspect was also taken into custody, but age and gender were redacted from the complaint.
Officers were called to the 600 block of North Ninth Street just after 1 a.m. Tuesday morning after a witness saw people stealing from a car. They denied committing the crime, however eyewitness testimony along with the suspects being found in possession of numerous stolen items along with a lot of loose change led to them being taken into custody.
Helling is free on $1,500 recognizance bond with conditions of bail including no contact with Garcia or the victims. His initial appearance is scheduled for December 2nd at 1:30. Garcia remains in the County Jail on $500 cash bail and his initial appearance is scheduled for November 18th at 1:30.
