A 43-year old man is in the Manitowoc County Jail, facing a host of charges after his vehicle had apparently crashed into a snowbank near the lakefront late last night.
Manitowoc police say an officer noticed a stopped car in the Marina parking lot with flames coming from the rear of the unit just before midnight. The driver was bent over with his forehead on the steering wheel and when officers tried to make contact with him, he became belligerent, and attempted to start his car and put it into reverse to leave the scene.
One of the officers had to use a Taser on the man to be able to gain control of the subject, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He made threats to EMS personnel, spat at them, and tried to swing at and kick police officers.
Once restrained and transported to Holy Family Memorial, his violent behavior continued toward hospital staff.
He is in the County Jail on charges of Threatening a Law Enforcement Officer, Discharging bodily fluids on a public safety worker, Resisting an Officer and Disorderly Conduct.
