Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer of women and men in the United States and it’s estimated that 4,150 Wisconsinites will be diagnosed with this disease in 2019 alone.
According to Dona Wininsky, the Director of Advocacy, Grassroots and Patient Engagement with the American Lung Association, Wisconsin is just average when it comes to lung cancer statistics. She says that is not good enough.
As a part of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, the ALA released their second annual State of Lung Cancer Report, and Wisconsin was rated average in terms of new cases diagnosed each year, the five year survival rate, early diagnosis, and surgery as a treatment option.
The state did rate as above average in screening, and lack of treatment however.
