A New London man will be on probation for a year, but won’t have to serve jail time if he doesn’t get in trouble.
38 year old Robert Mattes entered a guilty plea to charges of endagering safety with the use of a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct. Two other men agreed to the same deal last month.
They had brought a cannon to a party in Marion last May. What was essentially a pipe bomb exploded, killing Paul A. Casperson of Belvidere, Illinois. The district attorney acknowledged Casperson’s death was unintentional.
