Zeke Bratkowski who spent seven years of his career helping the Green Bay Packers win the first two Super Bowls as quarterback Bart Starr’s backup, passed away Monday at his home in Santa Rosa Florida. He was 88. The cause of death is not known at this time.
Bratkowski’s career spanned five decades and began when he was picked in the third round by the Chicago Bears in 1953. He played in 132 career games including 49 starts throwing 65 touchdown passes. He would ultimately coach for seven different teams which concluded as an assistant for the New York Jets in 1995.
Bratkowski also served in the U.S. Air Force. He becomes the second prominent quarterback of the Lombardi era to pass away this year. Bart Starr passed on May 26th.
