The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Northeast Region Office confirms that the completion of Phase One of the Waldo Boulevard Reconstruction/Roundabout Project is complete and will be open to thru traffic Friday evening.
Work which began in April included an expansion to a four-lane roadway with wider shoulders, sidewalk replacement, water main, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, plus curb/gutter. It also includes a major realignment of the Menasha Avenue intersection, signal replacement at the intersections of 11th street and 8th Street (County B) along with new lighting and pavement markings.
Motorists may still see some minor landscaping work being conducted within the project limits. Early calculations put the project under budget by 0ne to three percent of the estimated $13.56 million costs.
Phase two, or the west half of the project, will take place next year from 14th Street to County Road R which includes reconstruction between 14th Street and Fleetwood Drive, resurfacing from Fleetwood Drive to County R, a new bridge deck over the railroad tracks and a new culvert box and new traffic signals. That portion of Waldo will be closed to thru traffic during construction, with work expected to begin next spring.
