Number-23 Purdue was able to take down U-W-Green Bay in its season-opener Wednesday night by a 79-57 score.
The Phoenix managed to cut the lead to a dozen points with about six-and-a-half minutes to go, but never got closer. The Boilermakers started the non-conference game on a 14-2 run and the lead never got below double digits after that.
Green Bay’s three-point shooters heated up in the second half to keep the score respectable against the heavily-favored home team. Kameron Handerson led the Phoenix with 14 points.
Green Bay tries for its first win in the home season opener next Saturday against U-W-Stout.
