The Manitowoc County Board of Supervisors has approved next year’s county budget by a vote of 21-1.
The only no vote was cast by board member Randy Vogel, while 3 other supervisors John Brunner, Mike Williams & Don Zimmer were not in attendance. The approximate $71.5 million budget calls for $30.9 million to be raised through the Tax Levy, and a decrease of 27 cents per thousand in the Tax Rate.
Highlights of County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer’s 2020 budget include renovations & additions at Maribel caves Park, allocation of $3.4 million dollars for highway projects, and creation of 5 new positions in the Human Services Department to help deal with the opioid crisis.
It calls for about $1.3 million dollars in new borrowing, but the county will be able to pay off $2.5 million of existing debt under the new budget.
