La Crosse police have identified the victim of last weekend’s fatal shooting as 18-year-old Javier R. Ayers. Police say they are now in the early stages of a homicide investigation. Ayers was found lying on the ground near an alley Saturday night. He was taken to a local hospital, but doctors weren’t able to save his life. Investigators are looking for possible witnesses, but they say they are also checking social media and hoping somebody offers a tip anonymously.
