The Clipper City Co-Op has opened a new office in downtown Manitowoc. It’s located at 822 Franklin Street and hosted inside the Coolest Coast with hours of operation Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Thursday evening between 5 p.m. & 7 p.m. This is in anticipation of a community-owned full-service grocery store to be opened downtown with the focus on healthy, affordable food grown locally.
Supporters say food security and food quality are very important and Manitowoc’s downtown has been without a grocery store for too long. They say the co-op keeps more dollars in the community and any profits are earmarked for its’ mission.
Jill Iverson of the Clipper City Co-Op said they need 750 owners to sign a lease and currently have 572. The co-op is looking for 1-hundred-78 more household shares to be sold for a one-time investment of $200.
