There was a celebration in Valders last night.
The Valders Boys Cross Country team earned its’ 3rd consecutive State championship yesterday afternoon at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. Coach Bill Dietrich’s harriers made it a “3-peat” at State with a 30-point victory over Division-2 runner-up finisher, Notre Dame Academy. The Vikings were welcomed home w/ a police/fire truck escort to the high school late last night. Their top runner was Shane Griepentrog who covered the 5-thousand meter course in 16:38, placing 5th overall, followed by teammate & fellow sophomore, Clay Taylor, who ran a 16:52 for 9th in the race. Nate Griepentrog, Mitchell Braun & Riley Hammel were 13th, 23rd & 28th respectively.
In the Boys Division-1 race despite finishing 85th out of 185 runners, Manitowoc Lincoln’s Max Bailey ran a personal best time at state in 17:04.2.
In Girls Division-2: Two Rivers sophomore Anna Gallagher was the runner-up finisher. Raiders teammate Mikaela Helling placed 7th and Makenzie Greenwood was 60th.
In the Girls Division-3 race, Manitowoc Lutheran sophomore Brooklyn Luebke was the 4th best runner at state, while Mikayla Gove of Mishicot places 31st. In Boys Division-3: Brillion wound up with the silver trophy at state, finishing behind Aquinas. Hunter Krepline was 3rd best runner. 2 other-area competitors Kory Wiegert of Mishicot & Nolan Winter from Manitowoc Lutheran were 26th & 56th, respectively.
In Girls Volleyball Manitowoc Lincoln’s postseason run was stopped One match short of state as the Ships dropped a four-setter to top-seeded Oconomowoc in the Sectional finals.
