Broadwind Energy, with a location in Manitowoc, is best known for constructing large towers that support wind turbines. But, that is changing with the company becoming more diversified to create parts for mining equipment, bridges, and Navy ships.
Brett Hartman, Director of Business Development, tells SeehaferNews.com about a recent order for an over 250-foot boom sent to Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay. Hartman explained that the shipbuilders were sourcing that piece of equipment from China, but because of the existing relationship with the company, and Broadwind’s experienced team, the contract was given to the local business.
The irony of those fabrications being done in the old Manitowoc shipbuilding facility to support the new Bay shipbuilding plant is not lost on Hartman, who said that he hopes the project will become a long term one, for the benefit of both companies.
The Broadwind spokesman added, “there’s a lot of collaboration on a large project like that they spent a lot of time at our facility, as we did at theirs and I think we’ve formed a partnership that we can both benefit from in the future.”
