Ascend Services Inc. of Manitowoc, formerly known as Holiday House of Manitowoc County, is inviting the entire community to attend their “Open House” today. Executive Director Deanna Genske says it’ll be held from 9:30 to 11:30 and from 1 to 3 p.m. to accommodate as many people’s schedules and take a tour of the facilities at 2818 Meadow Lane.
Genske tells SeehaferNews.com that their mission is to promote individual growth by providing community experiences, education and employment opportunities. Ascend is also celebrating National Disability Awareness Month and the anniversary of their organizations beginning. Genske said that their founder, B.J. Halvorsen “founded our organization in the month October, and we like to continue to honor the vision he set out for us, even though we changed our name.”
Genske says they strive to enhance and promote people’s strengths, as opposed to focusing on their weaknesses. “There’s a lot of things I can’t do,” she said. “but I’m certainly not gonna focus my day on what I can’t do…lets focus on all those great attributes you have to offer.”
In fact employers in Manitowoc County hire many individuals from Ascend with Genske adding that the people they work with every day “not only learn from us but we perhaps even more so learn more from them.”
