The Wisconsin women’s hockey team jumped to a two-goal lead in the first period and was never threatened in a 4-1 home win over Bemidji State Sunday. That gave the number-one-ranked Badgers a sweep. Abby Roque and Daryl Watts put their team on top, then Sophie Shirley made it 3-0 early in the second period. Caitlin Schneider wrapped up the scoring before Bemidji State finally got on the scoreboard in the last two minutes of the game. Wisconsin plays at Minnesota next weekend in a rematch of last season’s national championship.
Freshman Owen Lindmark meanwhile, slapped in a rebound with six seconds left, giving the Wisconsin men’s hockey team a 4-3 win over Clarkson Saturday. That gave coach Tony Granato’s squad a split of the weekend series at the Kohl Center. Another freshman, Cole Caufield, scored one of his team’s three goals in a big second period. Roman Ahcan and K’Andrew Miller had Wisconsin’s other two goals. The Badgers begin Big Ten play next weekend at Penn State.
