The Executive Director of Progress Lakeshore said yesterday that the effects of President Trump’s tariffs on companies in Manitowoc County can best be described as mixed right now. Peter Wills tells SeehaferNews.com that several things are a challenge as he talks with company executives. “One is the tariffs overall…and the other is availability,” Wills said. “Firms that were getting some of their steel from Europe or other supplies, have found out that they don’t know what the price is gonna be, and they don’t even know the availability and quantity.”
Other local company leaders have felt an impact with aluminum. He said that “Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry has been pretty open about that…They have had to put some folks on lay-off right now.”
But yet, Wills explains when he visits with plastic firms they’re not seeing that, but overall they are
He pointed out that in their Job Fair in September, they still had over 95 companies represented and looking to hire. The Progress Lakeshore executive said he’s still anticipating about a two percent growth this quarter in the GDP or Gross Domestic Product.
