State Senator Andre Jacque of De Pere is pushing for Counties and Municipalities to be reimbursed for the cost associated with holding a special election. While on the WCUB Breakfast Club earlier this week, he said that his bill actually has some support from Governor Tony Evers, who “put in a very strong request for the legislature to take up” said bill.
Jacque explained that the bill is important because as of right now “there is no assistance from the state for putting on these special elections” and the Clerks have to pay for it somehow, so it usually ends up “on our property tax bills.”
At this point it would appear that the bill will pass, and will make special elections, such as the one Senator Jacque was involved in last year, less of a burden on those putting it on.
