After a 5-year absence in the post-season…the Manitowoc Lincoln High School football team punched its’ ticket to the playoffs, with Friday night’s convincing 37-0 victory over Notre Dame Academy. Following a Gatorade shower on Rubick Field, first-year Shipbuilders Head coach, Greg Enz, spoke of a pre-game speech from Lincoln grad & former Dallas Cowboy, Doug Free. “I don’t know what he said, or how he said it, but that was about as enthusiastic as a speech break by that team as I’ve seen the entire season,” Enz explained. “Everything just flowed from that point forward.”
Enz cited coaches before him like John Dixon and Ron Rubick when asked what it means to get Lincoln back into the postseason. He said, “I believe in this city so much. I’m just so proud to be a part of this opportunity.”
Lincoln received the #7 seed in its’ 8-team division-1 grouping and the Ships will travel to Milwaukee Marquette Friday night for a level-1 WIAA playoff game.
