Only eight states have more drunk driving arrests than Wisconsin. Long known for its drinking culture, the Badger State is well above the national average with more than 406 arrests-per-100-thousand residents. The study by SafeHome-dot-org used data from the F-B-I and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration based on 2017 numbers. South Dakota was at the top of the list with a rate more than twice as high as Wisconsin’s Drunk driving arrests have decreased by more than 44 percent over the last decade, but nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities involve a drunk driver.
