A 20-year-old Brown County man is facing charges after he allegedly fractured the skull of a five-week-old infant. Officers were called to a Green Bay hospital on October 2nd on a report of potential child abuse and found that the baby girl was suffering from a fractured skull, internal bleeding, and bruising.
The infant’s mother and father, Victor Shinkarenko, did not have an explanation for the injuries at first, but authorities say the child had been abused repeatedly. Shinkarenko eventually admitted to police that he had gotten out of bed at 2:00 AM to feed the infant, and struck her head on a door frame “pretty hard”.
He also admitted to other injuries coming from his frustration with the baby crying, including striking, and biting the child. The baby girl is expected to survive but may have learning delays, according to doctors.
Shinkarenko is facing charges of Physical Abuse of a Child – Repeated Acts Causing Great Bodily Harm and Obstructing an Officer, is being held in the Brown County Jail on $20,000 bond, and will be in court on November 13th.
