A new survey finds one-in-four female undergraduate students at the University of Wisconsin reported being sexually assaulted. The students said the perpetrators were most often a male friend or acquaintance. The alleged victims reported that the offender was drinking alcohol more than 76 percent of the time. The survey also found that only 26 percent who experienced non-consensual penetration by force reported the crime. U-W Chancellor Rebecca Blank said, “surveys like this are a critical tool for assessing and improving our efforts to prevent and respond to sexual violence and to support all survivors.” Three forums are planned in November to discuss the survey and help guide new policies at U-W Madison.
