The City of Two Rivers is proposing an amendment to Tax Incremental District Number Eight that would provide $1.12 million to various projects throughout the city. TID 8 was created in 2000 to assist in the redevelopment of the former High School Complex as the Washington Highlands Residential complex. City Manager Greg Buckley says a $300,000 Grant would go to Riverside Foods to assist with a $6.9 million expansion project at their current Wilson Street facility.
Buckley says $735,000 would go towards the reconstruction of streets and replacing aged underground utility infrastructure within a half-mile of the TID. Buckley explained that some of that infrastructure is over 100 years old, and in desperate need of replacement.
$50,000 would help fund environmental work and/or demolition costs for the property at 2023 Washington Street- where the former Uni-Mart store is located. It’s been vacant since 2011 and is to be acquired by the city through an assignment of the County’s interest in a tax foreclosure agreement approved by the City Council on September 30th.
The remaining $35 thousand would be applied to any administration, legal and other costs related to the TID amendment and other activities. Certain activities including those proposed here within a half-mile radius of the TID are permitted by state law. An initial review by the city’s Joint Review Board is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
