Students at Manitowoc Lincoln High School are still reeling after the recent threats. One student at that school reached out to us to give the student’s perspective. 14-year-old Makayla Green, a freshman at Lincoln, told SeehaferNews.com that she feels like more can be done to keep the students safe. “People are making jokes out of it,” she said. “Even though nothing did happen, it still could have happened. I don’t feel like they took it seriously.”
She also feels like the administrators and police did not relay information in an effective way. She told us, “There were a lot more threats than they thought. There was like four different ones going around. They never exactly said that it was taken care of or what happened, they just said nothing was going to happen.”
Makayla told us that she brought her concerns to administrators and that they said there really wasn’t anything they can do. As far as the vibe inside the school the day after the threats were discovered, Makayla said it was a tense, fear-filled day. Students were scared to go to the bathroom or get a drink of water by themselves, according to Green.
We spoke with SGT Andrew Trilling from the Manitowoc Police Department last week, and he told us it was never the intention of the Police Department to downplay the threats, and that it is department policy to go along with the School District in regards to how information is passed along. Our full story with him can be found by clicking here.
In a lengthy Facebook post, Makayla continued to voice her frustrations, saying, “Are we really just gonna sit around and wait for kids to die? We never think it’ll happen until it does.”
