Assistant coach Don Granato will not be with the Buffalo Sabres when they open the N-H-L season tonight in Pittsburgh (Thursday). The former Wisconsin player and assistant is hospitalized with pneumonia and is taking a medical leave of absence. Badgers head coach Tony Granato has been away from the team to be with his brother in New York. Fifty-two-year-old Granato joined the Sabres this summer after two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks. Granato played at U-W from 1987 to 91 and was an assistant under brother Tony for the 2016-2017 season.
