The Manitowoc Police Department is asking for the public’s help in catching the suspects in a vehicle entry incident on the north side of the City at around 1:00 this morning. The Department posted a video of the crime on Facebook, which shows two people entering a pair of vehicles and taking unknown items. We reached out to Lieutenant Robert Arps with the MPD, who told us that they have been trying to stop a series of such crimes. “Unfortunately a lot of this stuff has been kinda hit or miss,” the Lieutenant explained. “What we find is we do extra patrols in one area and then kinda know how it happens, and then it shifts to a different area.”
One way the public can help protect themselves, is by simply locking their vehicle. Lt. Arps says, “It’s that simple…We always hear ‘I would rather have them just enter my car and take something rather than breaking a window.’… That’s not what they are doing. They are going into unlocked vehicles, and unlocked buildings. That’s what they do.“
Anyone that has information concerning the identity of these subjects is encouraged to contact the Shift Commander desk at 920-686-6551, or, if you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at (920) 683-4466.
