The U-S Air Force is approving a 30-day extension to the public comment period for a proposal to base F-35 jets to Madison’s Truax Field. Congressman Mark Pocan requested the extension earlier this week. Residents of densely populated neighborhoods near the Air National Guard base have been concerned because an environmental impact statement indicates the F-35s will be much louder than the Guard’s current squadron. Pocan said he’s glad the comment period has been extended. He also wants the Air Force to reconsider doing take-off and landing tests to more accurately assess the noise impact of the new jets.
