Local August Unemployment Rates Released Wednesday

Unemployment rates declined slightly in August both in Manitowoc and in Manitowoc County. Numbers released by the State Department of Workforce Development show the city’s jobless rate was three-point-three percent. That’s a half-a-percent decrease from July’s number of three-point-eight percent but up from last August’s figure of three-point-three percent.  Meanwhile–Manitowoc County’s Unemployment rate is three-point-two percent—a two-tenths of-a-percent decrease from three-point-four percent in July but an increase from July 2018’s figure of two-point eight percent. Preliminary August unemployment rates show joblessness declining or staying the same in 26 of Wisconsin’s 33 largest cities and in 61 of the state’s 72 counties (including Manitowoc).
